Our Logos - Which to Use?

International Test Technologies logos are available in 3 file formats:

  1. Encapsulated PostScript™ (.eps) - best print quality but only printable on PostScript compatible printers.
  2. Windows® Metafile Format (.wmf) - for use in PC applications when printing to non-PostScript printers. Also reasonable in screen applications such as Microsoft® Powerpoint®.
  3. GIF (.gif) - for use in screen presentations or web applications.

The advantage of eps files is that they can be placed in virtually any page layout program on Apple™ Macintosh™ or PC, and they will produce sharp outlines when printed, even when enlarged or reduced in size. The disadvantage is that they don't display well on screen (they contain a low resolution bitmap image to allow easy positioning and recognition), and the printer must be PostScript compatible.

The disadvantage of wmf files is that the contours of objects are simplified, which degrades their quality. This is only visible if objects are significantly enlarged. They are better than eps files for use in screen-based applications, such as Powerpoint presentations. Macintosh applications don't normally accept wmf's.

GIF images are intended only for screen-based applications - they print badly. Their quality can be better than eps and wmf files on screen because the edges of objects can be "anti-aliased" to hide jagged effects on diagonal lines. The quality of GIF's depends upon the skill of their creator. The disadvantage of GIF's is that any increase or decrease in size will noticeably degrade quality. They have a fixed background colour, which can be made transparent but traces of that colour may be seen as a halo if they are placed on a differently coloured background.

If you need a GIF-format logo of a different size from those we have provided, please contact us - do not re-size our GIF logos yourself.
